Characterization and Test of Diamond Foundry’s SiC Inverters for Mercedes-Benz
Application
EV Drive Inverter
Research
DF inverter (from website https://www.df.com/power-electronics)
This project will characterize and test the 800V SiC inverter provided by Diamond Foundry (DF), leveraging the past inverter test experience of UTK and Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America Inc. (“MBRDNA”) collaborative projects. The main scope of work includes: 1) electrical characterization of DF’s power inverter, particularly steady-state/transient analysis and efficiency analysis at different operating power/voltage; 2) understand the benefits of using diamond as thermal interface material, e.g., low thermal impedance thereby smaller footprint; and 3) benchmark other wide-bandgap (WBG) inverters thereby providing a head-to-head comparison.
How WBG Can Help
The success of diamond substrate will facilitate the thermal dissipation therefore further shrinking the size of the WBG converters
